Does your Shopify store sell in more than one language or market? bluebarry follows it. It syncs your published languages, your markets, your translated catalog and each market's prices from Shopify, and lets you translate what you built in bluebarry: quizzes, recommendation blocks, search texts and popups. You build everything once, never one copy per country.
See your languages and markets
Go to Settings and open the Languages & markets tab. Both lists come from Shopify, so you add a language or a market there, not in bluebarry.
- Languages lists your store's published languages. The one marked Primary is the language your catalog is written in. For every other language you see how many products are translated and when the translations were last synced. Translate products in Shopify.
- Markets lists each market with its countries, currency, languages and the number of products for sale there. Prices, stock and availability per market sync every 5 hours, and product and stock changes follow within seconds. Click Resync to fetch them right away.
Do you see Approve the updated Shopify permissions? Click Open in Shopify and approve the update in the bluebarry app. Until then, markets and market prices can't sync.
What shoppers see
- Your catalog in their language. Product names, property values and collection titles use your Shopify translations. You can't edit them in bluebarry.
- Their market's prices and products. Each market shows its own prices and currency, and leaves out products that are not for sale there.
- Your texts, translated. A text without a translation shows in your primary language.
- Only quizzes and popups that are ready. A quiz is offered in another language once it has a translation in it. Until then, buttons, search links, popups and product chat leave it out for those shoppers. A popup shows in another language once it has a version in it.
Translate what you built
You write everything once, in your primary language, and translate it once per language. Every market that speaks that language uses the same translation.
| What | Where | Goes live |
|---|---|---|
| Quiz | The quiz editor: the languages icon in the header (Translate the quiz). | With the quiz's next publish. |
| Recommendation block | The block editor: the languages icon in the header (Translate the block). | As soon as you save. |
| Search texts | Your search configuration, under Translations: content links, comparison names and the texts of rules that apply to every language. | As soon as you save. |
| Badge labels and filter names | Merchandising → Storefront profiles, open a profile and go to Translations. One translation covers search results and collection pages. | As soon as you save. |
| Popup | The popup editor: the language menu, then Add a language, drafted by AI. | With the popup's next publish. |
These options only appear when your store has another language or market to translate for.
Translate with AI
- Open the translations and pick a language.
- Click Translate with AI and choose Fill in what is missing, Redo what is outdated or Redo everything. The last one replaces every translation, reviewed ones too.
- Optionally add Instructions, for example to address shoppers informally or to keep product line names in English. bluebarry uses your catalog's own translations as a glossary.
- Start the translation. You can close the window while it runs. Read the result and edit any text by hand. AI drafts stay marked AI, not reviewed until you mark them as reviewed, and the filters Missing, Outdated, AI, not reviewed and Reviewed show what is left.
When you change the original text later, its translations become outdated. Shoppers keep seeing the old translation until you update it. The languages icon shows how many translations are outdated.
A market's own wording
Does one market say things differently, such as British next to American English, or Swiss German next to German? In the language picker, choose the market under Word it differently for a market. Only the texts that market words its own way are kept. Everything else follows the language's translation. A popup works the same way: its language menu has A market's own version.
Search per language and market
Search rules that match what shoppers type, such as synonyms, redirects, quiz triggers and banners, can apply to every language, to one language or to one market. Write a rule for a language or market in that language. It is not translated. When several rules would do the same thing, the most specific one wins: the market's own, then the language's. bluebarry search only runs in the markets you switch it on for, see Launch search on your store.
Get a market ready with Barry
On the Markets card, every market except your primary one has a Get it ready with Barry link. It opens Barry with a request you can still edit: check which quizzes, recommendation blocks, search texts and popups shoppers in that market still see in your main language, translate what is missing, and list what is left for you. Barry's translations are saved as unreviewed drafts. See Meet Barry.
Good to know
- Languages and markets need a connected Shopify store. On other platforms, see Manage quizzes in multiple languages.
- Quiz translations and popup versions belong to the draft. Publish the quiz or popup to put them in front of shoppers.
- Never duplicate a quiz or popup for another language on Shopify. A copy splits its analytics, experiments and segments, and drifts away from the original.
