bluebarry can automatically show your quiz as a popup after a visitor has spent a set amount of time on your Shopify store. This is a powerful way to engage browsers who are exploring but haven't committed to a product yet, without requiring them to click anything.
Step 1: Enable the Shopify app embed
Before setting up the popup, make sure the bluebarry app embed is enabled in your Shopify theme. This is required for the popup trigger to work on your storefront.
Step 2: Add the Bluebarry Popup Trigger section
In the Shopify theme editor, add the popup trigger section to your theme:
- Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize
- Click Add section
- Select Apps → Bluebarry Popup Trigger
- Click Save

Step 3: Configure the popup in Shopify
To connect the popup to your quiz, you need your Advisor ID. You can find it in the URL when you have a specific quiz open in bluebarry. It's the ID in the address bar.

- Paste your Advisor ID into the popup trigger settings
- Configure the rest of your popup settings (delay, frequency, and pages)
- Click Save

Popup Display Options
When you configure the time-on-page trigger, you can also set:
- Delay: How many seconds after page load before the popup fires (10–120 seconds is typical)
- Frequency: Whether the popup should only show once per session, once per day, or every visit
- Pages: Optionally restrict the popup to specific pages (e.g., only on collection pages, not checkout)
When to Use a Popup vs a Button
| Popup trigger | Button / link trigger |
|---|---|
| Proactive: quiz appears automatically | Intentional: visitor decides to start |
| Great for high-traffic stores with browsing visitors | Great for product pages and navigation |
| May interrupt focused visitors | Only engages visitors who actively seek help |
| Higher volume, lower average intent | Lower volume, higher average intent |
Many stores use both: a button in the navigation for intentional visitors and a popup as a fallback for browsers who don't find what they need on their own. Learn how to set up the button launch →
💡 Recommended settings to start with
Start with a 45–60 second delay and once-per-session frequency. This ensures the popup doesn't disrupt visitors who already know what they want. After a few weeks, check your bluebarry dashboard to see conversion rates and adjust the timing if needed.
Verify the Popup
To test the popup, visit your store in an incognito browser window and wait for the configured delay. The bluebarry quiz should appear automatically. If it does not:
- Confirm the app embed is enabled in your Shopify theme
- Check that the time-on-page trigger is saved and active in bluebarry
- Make sure your quiz funnel is published and not in draft mode
