A collection page can adapt to the shopper looking at it. Two settings do this: a personalized product order in the product grid, and quiz matches in the quiz banner for shoppers who already took your quiz. Both leave new visitors with your normal page.
Personalized product order
When a shopper looks at a product a few times and then comes back to the collection, that product and products often bought with it move to the front of the page. Recent and repeated views count more, and products a quiz matched them with also move up. Everything else keeps your order.
Turn it on
- On the Design tab, select the product grid and click Settings.
- Open the Order tab and switch on Personalize product order.
- Publish or republish the template on the Launch tab. The switch does nothing for shoppers until you do.

Preview what a shopper sees
With the setting on, a Shopper picker appears above the canvas, next to the collection you are previewing. No history (collection order) shows the order new shoppers get. Pick a product under Viewed a product to see the first page as a shopper who just viewed it.

If the picker says Manual order kept, the collection is sorted manually in Shopify, and every shopper sees your order.
When your own order stays
The personalized order only rearranges products within the page a shopper is on. No product moves to another page, so paging and filters work as usual. Banners stay where you put them. Your collection's own order stays for:
- New shoppers and shoppers without any history yet.
- Collections you sort manually in Shopify. That order is your curation, so bluebarry leaves it alone.
- Shoppers who pick a sort from the sort dropdown.
- A small control group of returning shoppers, used to measure the effect (see below).
Sold-out products are never moved forward. For a returning shopper, the grid waits a moment, at most one and a half seconds, while the order is worked out. If that takes longer, the shopper simply gets your normal order. Products never jump around once the grid is visible.
Measure the effect
bluebarry keeps 10% of returning shoppers on your normal order. They are the fair comparison: same kind of shopper, no personalization. Go to Personalizations in the sidebar and filter on Collection pages. Each template with the setting on has a Personalized product order row that compares clicks and conversions with that control group. See Measure personalizations for how to read it.
Show quiz matches to returning visitors
Someone who already took your quiz doesn't need another invitation to take it. With this setting, the quiz banner shows them their quiz matches from this collection instead, plus a link to retake the quiz.
- Select the quiz banner section in the canvas and click Returning visitors in its toolbar.
- Switch on Show matches to visitors who did the quiz.
- Under Which quiz counts, choose Only this quiz, Any quiz or Selected quizzes. If a shopper did more than one, their most recent quiz counts.
- Set Products to show (up to 8) and Minimum matches (up to 4). With fewer matches in this collection than the minimum, the shopper sees the invitation.
- Set how many days Quiz results count for. The default is 90. After that, the shopper sees the invitation again.
- Adjust the Heading(“Your matches in this collection”) and the Retake link text if you like.
- Leave Price and Stock on Automaticto use your catalog's price and stock, or pick other number properties.
- Republish the template.

To check both states, use the Quiz picker above the canvas: New visitor (invitation) or Did the quiz (their matches).
Only products from this collection are shown, sold-out products are left out, and the shopper's best matches come first. Matches show on the device and browser where the shopper finished the quiz. The retake link opens the quiz at the first question.
Good to know
- Both settings need the bluebarry app embed switched on in your Shopify theme.
- With Experiments you can also test a version with the personalized order switched on against the published page.
- The more shoppers view products and finish quizzes, the more the page has to work with. Quiz banners and banners between the rows help.
