How to properly use labels and topic settings for your questions and answers

This guide explains how to get the most out of question labels, answer labels, and answer topic settings in bluebarry to create a cleaner interface and better user experience.

Topics covered in this article

Question Labels

Your full questions can often be too long to display properly across the bluebarry interface. Question labels provide a shorter alternative that keeps your interface clean and organized.

Where question labels are used:

  • Advisor page
  • Matching page
  • Dashboard

Answer Labels

Similar to questions, your full answers can sometimes be too detailed to display properly throughout the interface. Answer labels provide a shortened version that maintains clarity.

Where answer labels are used:

  • Advisor page
  • Matching page
  • Dashboard

💡 Best practices for question and answer Labels:

  • Keep labels short but meaningful
  • Use clear, recognizable terminology
  • Ensure labels accurately represent the full question/answer
  • Consider how labels will appear across different interface sections
  • Make labels understandable for both you and your team members

Answer Labels on Result Cards

When you show multiple product results, buyers need to understand why product A is recommended over product B.

Topics covered in this article

  • What answer labels do
  • How to use answer labels
  • Setting up ranking questions

Answer labels show which quiz answers led to each product recommendation. They display directly on result cards so buyers can see:

  • Which requirements all products meet (shown at the top)
  • Which specific answer differentiates each product (shown on individual cards)
  • Which products don’t fully match certain criteria

This makes match percentages meaningful. Instead of just seeing “100% match” vs “80% match,” buyers see the actual difference.

How to use answer labels

Answer labels only work with ranking questions. If all questions are filter questions, every result shows as 100% match because non-matching products were already eliminated.

Example: A quiz about office chairs includes a ranking question about budget (Under €200 / €200-€400 / €400+). The top result might be 100% match at €180. The second result scores 85% because it’s €250. The answer label “€200-€400” appears on that card, showing exactly why it’s not the top match.

Setting up ranking questions

Answer labels require at least one ranking question in your quiz.

New questions default to “ranking” type. To change a question type:

  1. Go to match results
  2. Click edit on the question
  3. Switch between ranking and filter

Answer Topics

Answer topics are displayed in two key places:

  • The result page (visible to end users)
  • Third-party analytics integrations

The answer topic represents the main category or theme an answer belongs to. It should ideally be a single word or short phrase.

💡 Best practices answer topics:

  • Important: End users will see answer topics on the result page
  • Ensure topics align directly with the full answer
  • Use topics that help users immediately recognize their selected answers
  • Keep topics consistent across similar answer types
  • Use short, descriptive words or phrases
